Sunset’s Academic Decathlon team is under the gun. Their regional competition is in less than two months, and everyone on the team has to prepare a 4-minute speech on a topic of their choosing.
Here’s the thing: the speech judges have had it with all the usual stuff. No one wants to hear another “My Hero” speech or “A Time When I Was a Leader.”
We need creative ideas. In the past, Decathletes have given speeches about imaginary friends where they were regularly interrupted by their imaginary friends, and speeches in favor of global warming, because polar bears are evil and deserve to die.
We need more of that kind of gold. If you have exciting and creative ideas for speech topics, please post them in the comments below. If a Decathlete decides to prepare a speech on your topic, I’ll give you Honorable Mention credit at the end of the six weeks. If the Decathlete wins a medal at the regional competition with your speech idea, I’ll buy you a pony (or lunch).
GO!
Well well well. Ideas I see. Why not talk about, “how hard and creative it can be to come up with such an interesting topic. Couldn’t you restate what they are actually looking for and is expected” I used such a topic myself on TAKS before or some sort of essay that I cannot recall. If it works, use the past examples as support to why picking a topic is difficult. Much Luck!
Okay, here’s the deal! I’m the best there is! If you want to know anything about writing speeches, this is the guy you should talk to. A great speech to do is about surviving the zombie apocalypse that awaits us all. Speak about on how you survived this zombie apocalypse and the plan you had to be a survivor of this apocalypse.
I figured that you needed something insidious that you can flip around for shock value. What came to mind? Well it’s ever present in seedy gas stations, health reports, and easily addictive and sadly readily available to young defenseless children whose only crime is that of innocence. What is this evil affront to God? Little Debbie Snack Foods! She’s been passed around more than a tennis ball at Wimbledon ever since she hit the scene in the 60’s where I’m sure she made it to thousands of stoned citizens. High time someone knock her down a peg or two. Just an Idea.
ummm a good topic would be to write about what you would want to read if you were that important person reading the paper but with night vision goggles on and eating a subway with rock music playing..playing about love..write about that BOB OR KEVIN OR DANIEL OR WHOEVER IS IN ACDec
@shelby I don’t understand your comment. Is this some sort of inside joke, or are you just insane?
To begin with i love people so don’t freak out if you read my comment. one day i was talking to Mr.Howland and we discussed if a computer robot should be in charge of sending horrible people to the sun, i said that the robot would take in charge and kill all human kind but Mr.Howland stated that it wont. so.. should a robot… emotionless computer robot should be in charge of sending all horrible people who are a threat to society such as (terrorist, murders, monsters, thefts, rapists, zombies, etc) to the sun? or us as human do it ourselves? its not like we’ve done it before…just joking.. well the government hides many things from us so… lets add government to be sent to the sun too shall we
LOL
i love people just to make it clear out there
reading Patty’s comment about robots reminded me of something.
it seems that people make reference of robots/technology/science and all those related things, taking over and over powering the humans and so forth, kind of like a not-so-quite-but-almost dystopia type of deal.
anyways even though we’re sort of ‘bewaring’ ourselves with books and movies about having to really face the existence of things of that sort.
we’re still continuing with technology and expanding the idea of science being the answer to everything. (if that makes any bit of sense.)
so the topic is simply, as we advance with our discoveries and allowing technology to become part of our lives are we, in reality, doomed to make such mistakes that can kill us all?
we were debating the other day in class and one topic we discussed that could also be used to write an essay could be has our right( ex: freedom of speech) gone to far? do people look out for the greater good of humanity when they propose a right or do they just look out for self interest? do people actually think about what the outcome could be when proposing a right or just see what could make them happy? those are just a couple of ideas but they could be used as only one.
Well I think that a good speech idea would be, “why penguins are stuck-up brats”. Now before you think I’m insane everybody, hear me out. Fact #1: Penguins walk around in their little black and white “tuxedos”, as if they own the world. Fact #2: Penguins waddle instead of walking like other creature, because they think that they’re too “special” to just walk. Fact #3: Penguins live in an isolated area where it’s too cold for many other creatures to live; just so they can be alone. So there you have it, just a few of the many reasons why penguins are evil, spoiled creatures, and not cute and cuddly, as they appear on films such as “Happy Feet”.
What i think would be a good idea for a speech is why the kids getting stupider as the years go on. I do admit that our class acts stupid from time to time but actually we do it on purpose while the younger kids are just to plainly put stupid. I say this because every time my younger brother talks about his friends he demonstrates how stupid are his friends and their actions. I feel that if this keeps up we’ll end up like in that movie Idiocracy, I dont know about how you all feel but i would be scared.
Your correct everytime its time for a speech people mostly here the same thing over and over. At some point your teacher who will be grading you and other classmates as well will be tired of hearing the speeches. When its your turn to write a speech pick a topic that hardly no one talks about and go beyond it. The more creativity you put into your speech the more others will listen and your teacher would be satisfied.
